International exchange students Alfiza, Matheus, and Eva, together with a host dad and host sister, volunteered in a Greenheart Project created by Local Coordinator Nancy Morin. The group volunteered at the Minneapolis Farmers Market gathering food from the local vendors which they later donated to the Second Harvest Heartland Organization. This organization then distributed the food to the local food shelves that serve the community!
The group distributed boxes to the vendors who used them to donate their leftover food at the end of the day. Our volunteers then loaded the food onto the truck! By doing this, Nancy and her students were able to help feed the community and have a fun time doing it!
Nancy and her students really enjoyed spending time together, doing something that most of the students wouldn’t normally do in their home countries. Each student admitted that they didn’t normally do this type of work back home, and Nancy was excited to see how happy and proud they were at gathering more and more boxes to feed the hungry.
“Spending time with my students doing something for the community is a great feeling. It warms my heart to know that they are so proud of themselves for the hard work that they do. I, selfishly just like to spend time with them and so I do these events for that purpose too!” ~Nancy Morin
